15 Wrap Reel
A reel designed to measure a wrap or lea of yarn from cops, ring bobbins, etc., the leas being weighed to ascertain the counts of the yarn. The hand-driven reels have a gear arrangement that gives 80 revolutions of the reel for 40 revolutions of the handle. The cotton wrap reel is 54-in. in circumference so that 80 turns give a lea of 120 yards. Usually the reel is of a size to wind four leas at once. These are weighed separately and the total weight in grain divided into 4,000 which gives the counts. Larger reels are sometimes used to reel seven leas at once. They can be power driven. -
